Dental implants are artificial titanium teeth roots which will be placed into the jawbone instead of lost teeth. They are supplying better speaking and chewing functions in comparison with the traditional casings and prosthesis, and they also bring a natural look to your face as they function and look like normal teeth. They are cavity resistant and they can last a lifetime if they are well taken care of. They can prevent bone loss and they do not have a negative influence on neighboring teeth. Furthermore, they improve speech, restores natural smile and retains a youthful appearance.

Dental implants can be a solution if you miss one, multiple or all your teeth.

Dental implants can be a suitable solution:

  • If you miss one tooth: Because the prostheses made onto the implants will take the places of the natural teeth and they are building a structure as closest as to the natural. During the completion of the missing teeth, the adjacent teeth will not be cut like in bridges, in other words, the healthy teeth will be preserved.
  • If you miss more teeth: Implants have the function of the root of teeth and without the support of the neighbor teeth, it is possible to make dentures/bridges on the implants.
  • If you miss all your teeth: If you jawbones are enough you can get implants in your jaws and after this treatment, you can get crowns or bridges placed on implants. If your bones are not enough in your whole mouth, you can get implants in the suitable places of your jaw and get dentures on these implants. The adhesion of these dentures on the implants is stronger and better as the adhesion on your palate. This is also better to prevent pain and wounds inside of your mouth by using of normal dentures.

Before any implants are placed, it is important for the dentist to assess the overall health of patient’s teeth and gums. If there are any signs of gum disease or decay, these problems must be treated first. Afterwards, x-rays and in some cases CT scan is required in order to examine the bone quality and look for nearby anatomical structures to avoid before the dentist begins drilling.

Global Medical Care experts ensure that in our packages all the dental implants are done by a Dental surgeon who is an implant expert. In some, if your jawbone is not sufficient, bone grafting has to be used before the implant is placed. This will require 3 visits instead of 2. On top of the standard two visit (with 2-4 months difference) option, in some rare cases, our dent hospitals may offer as well CAD/CAM technology where they can fit high-quality implants on the same day of your visit using CEREC. Therefore you do not need to come back for a second visit. You will be informed whether you are suitable for these alternatives before you start your trip.

As well if you are not able to bare to go to a dentist all our operations can be done under general anesthesia done by special anesthesiologists.

DENTAL IMPLANT FAQ

Dental_Implants

Can implants improve my appearance?

Our dentists not only aims to improve your chewing abilities and your oral hygiene but also focuses on the aesthetic aspects while reconstructing your teeth.

Do I need any special aftercare?

Even though there is no special aftercare, you will be given post-op instructions for your crowns. In order to speed up your healing process, you should follow these rules. You should not smoke after the operation because smoking slows down the healing process. You need to avoid excessive alcohol consumption. You also should follow the medication routine set by your dentist and take your antibiotic / painkillers continuously.

Does age make a difference?

Age is not the most important issue regarding dental implants. Our dentists have a great success on young patients as well. Missing teeth caused by sports injuries or any other related incidents can successfully be reconstructed by our dentists.

Does dental implant can be applied to anyone?

Dental implants procedure can be applied in patients of any age provided that they have a sufficient quantity and quality of bone tissue available. Most healthy individuals who maintain a good oral hygiene program are suitable candidates for dental implants. The situations in which implants may not be suitable or there is an increased risk of implant failure include:

  • Heavy smoking – this slows down and hinders the healing process
  • Excessive alcohol intake – disrupts healing of the gums
  • Periodontal gum disease – all active gum disease must be treated prior to any implant procedure to ensure the long-term success of any treatment. Periodontal disease is a major cause of bone loss, which would hinder the success of any implant procedure
  • Immuno-compromised individuals (steroids, auto-immune disease, patients undergoing radiation treatment)
  • Teeth grinders (bruxism) – a night-time splint can be given to treat this
How long do dental implants last?

If you care your dental implants properly, they should last for a lifetime. Oral hygiene and routine dentist visits are vital elements for the life of your implants.

Is there a chance of rejection?

Normally, the body does not reject a dental implant. Dental implants are considered as soft tissue transplants. But in rare occasions, a dental implant may fail due to dislocation, unbalanced force on implant or any existing disease.

What are the advantages of implant treatment?
  • The dentures or prostheses prepared after an implant treatment process constitute the most identical structures to human natural teeth.
  • They provide better chewing and speaking functions as compared to other traditional prostheses.
  • They look more aesthetical than other types of prostheses.
  • The missing teeth are being retrieved without having to make any operation on the neighboring teeth thanks to the implants.
  • They help increase retention of total prostheses. The much weak retention of mandible total prostheses would be increased considerably by placing of two implants into the lower jawbone even the patient does not possess sufficient bone quality.
What happens if my jawbones not good or strong enough to hold a dental implant?

If you need bone grafting in order to make your tooth implant stronger, or if your gums are too soft; Our dental surgeon operates a bone grafting session. Bone grafting procedure takes 1 to 2 hours. After your grafting session is done, you need to wait for at least two months to recover and have your second appointment as placing the dental implants.

What I need to do after my operation?

Your Dentist will give you detailed instructions tailored for your situation. Please do not act before you get your customized list. But general guidelines that our Dentists are sharing with their patients for dental implant treatment is as follows:

  • Your dentist may give you a prescription, please follow the medication plan carefully
  • You will have some sutures placed in your mouth and you will be provided with a gauze pack to stop the bleeding. You should bite on the gauze for a good 15-20 minutes. Your dental surgeon will make sure the bleeding stops before you leave the clinic and the gauze will be removed. You may be given a spare pack of gauze in case of further bleeding
  • In order to minimize the swelling, you should apply ice pack on the face over surgical site 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off. You need to continue this for the first 2 days after the surgery
  • You should consume liquids as well as soft foods for the first 3 days after your implant procedure. Avoid hot, hard, cold and spicy food
  • You should use straw when you drink, and you should not rinse or spit for the first 24 hours of the procedure. After 24 hours, you can mix salt and warm water to rinse your mouth 4 to 5 times a day in order to protect the surgical area
  • You should not drink alcoholic beverages for 48 hours after the procedure
What I need to do before my operation?

You will get a detailed customized list from your dentist what to do and what not to do before the operation. Please do not act before you get your customized list. Here is a general guidance that our dentists share with their patients:

  • You should inform your dentist about your routine medication and health history
  • You should not take aspirin, blood thinning medication and Vitamin E for a week before your procedure
  • You should stop taking any herbal supplements before the dental implant procedure
  • You should stop smoking any tobacco products 2 weeks before your dental implant surgery
  • You should not drink alcoholic beverages 12 hours prior to the procedure
  • You should exercise extra dental hygiene for a few days before your dental bridge procedure in order to heal faster and properly
What I should expect after dental implant treatment?

Patients may experience some discomfort related with any type of dental surgery which are swelling of gums and face, bruising of skin and gums, pain at the implant site and minor bleeding. Discomfort disappears in couple of days. Patients are provided with absorbable stitches and are advised to follow a soft diet for a week. Recommendations on pain management are given on the day of surgery by the dentist as a part of postoperative instructions.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implant is used as a root of a tooth that serves as a supportive instrument of a missing or a deformed tooth. It is placed into your jawbone by drilling and usually made of strong metals such as titanium.

What would be my daily schedule for dental implant treatment?

Although it may vary from patient to patient, here’s a typical daily schedule for dental implant treatment operations:

  • If you do not need bone grafting then, first step of the treatment will start and will lasts up to three hours. Your dental surgeon will examine the implant zones and scales your mouth with special mold.
  • You will stay in your hotel and have time to see the surrounding area.
